Size Guide

Of course, you know exactly how old your child is. But when it comes to choosing the right clothing size, age doesn't tell the whole story. That's why disana sizes are always based on your child's height rather than their age.
Our first recommendation is simple: Measure your child's height first, then choose the size.
Many parents then ask themselves:
Should I buy a size up? And how much room to grow is actually okay?
Our rule of thumb is:
Rolling up the sleeves or pant legs once is perfectly fine – anything more is usually too much.
Buying an overall or jacket that is much too large has two important drawbacks:
  • Restricted movement: Your child can end up swimming in the fabric, making it harder to crawl, walk, and play freely. Bulky clothing can get in the way and make exploring less enjoyable.
  • Less warmth, not more: If there's too much empty space between your child's body and the garment, the wool can't trap body heat effectively. Cold air can circulate inside, meaning your child may actually feel chilly despite wearing thick boiled wool.

Our tip: Choose the size that fits well right now, leaving enough room for no more than one comfortable cuff fold at the sleeves or legs. Since our garments are designed with a comfortable fit and wool naturally has a little stretch, they usually fit much longer than you might expect.

Since children of the same age can vary greatly in size, our disana double sizes are always based on your child's actual height (measured in centimeters from head to toe).

The following table gives you a quick overview of which size fits best and up to which maximum height the clothing can usually be worn:

disana Size Fits up to max. height Approx. age
50/56 58 cm 0 - 3 months
62/68 70 cm 3 - 6 months
74/80 82 cm 6 - 12 months
86/92 94 cm 1 - 2 years
98/104 106 cm 3 - 4 years
110/116 118 cm 5 - 6 years
122/128 130 cm 7 - 8 years
134/140 142 cm 9 - 10 years
146/152 154 cm 11 - 12 years
156/164 166 cm 13 - 14 years

A small tip for orientation: If your child is, for example, currently 80 cm tall, size 74/80 will still fit well (up to a height of approximately 82 cm).

At disana, we design cuts that are thoughtfully developed from the very beginning.

Since children grow quickly, our garments are designed to reliably grow with them for a long time and to support every movement in everyday life:

  • Growing cuffs: The fine knitted cuffs on sleeves and legs can simply be folded up at the beginning. As your child grows, you can unfold them and instantly gain valuable extra centimeters.
  • Extended back on jackets: Our jackets are intentionally cut slightly longer at the back. This keeps the sensitive back area warm while bending, crawling, and playing – and the jacket often fits for an entire additional season longer than expected.
  • Adjustable waistband: Most of our trouser waistbands have an adjustable elastic band integrated into them. This allows the width around the waist to be perfectly adapted to slimmer or stronger children.
  • Stretchable comfort: Our soft knit fabrics are naturally elastic. They adapt flexibly to the body's shape, do not restrict movement, and provide comfort even over thick cloth diapers.

Our sustainability tip:

Get even more wear out of the next size!

When your favorite jacket or overall finally becomes too short at the arms or legs after what feels like an eternity, you do not have to part with it right away. In our range of spare parts, we offer fabric pieces and knitted cuffs.

With a little craftsmanship or the help of a tailor, sleeves and legs can often be extended. This way, you can easily gain a few more centimeters, save money, and give the natural product an even longer life.

No, a direct comparison with other brands usually does not work.

At disana, we develop all cuts and fits entirely ourselves in our own manufactory. We consistently base our sizing on your child's actual height rather than on other brands or standardized fashion sizes used by the fast-fashion industry.

Two things make our cuts particularly special:

  • Focus on freedom of movement: It is especially important to us that children can play, crawl, and explore freely in our clothing. Nothing should restrict them or limit their curiosity. That is why our garments are naturally designed with a generous and comfortable fit.
  • Room for layering & diapers: Our cuts provide enough space to comfortably wear several layers underneath on cold days and to accommodate even thicker cloth diapers without restriction.

Our recommendation:

When buying, please do not rely on the clothing size your child currently wears from other manufacturers. Instead, simply measure your child from head to toe and take a look at our disana size chart. This way, you can be sure to find the size that fits perfectly for everyday life and grows with your child for the longest possible time.

Has your beloved jacket or favorite pair of trousers become too small, and is it time for the next size?

To help you avoid buying the wrong size, our detailed measurement charts will provide you with helpful guidance.

In our charts, you will find three key measurements for each garment (such as sleeve length, chest width, or back length).

To make sure measuring goes smoothly, please keep the following points in mind:

  • These are approximate measurements: Since we only use pure natural fibers, every garment is unique. The values in our charts are therefore guidelines and may vary slightly due to production (by 5–10 mm).
  • Always measure loosely: When measuring your child, place the measuring tape comfortably and without pulling it tight.
  • Make use of the natural elasticity: Our garments – whether made from sturdy boiled wool fabric or soft knitwear – naturally have some give. They can flexibly stretch a little in length or width during everyday wear. This soft, flexible quality is exactly what ensures that the clothing never feels restrictive while playing and that many favorite pieces continue to grow with your child much longer than the measurements in centimeters alone might suggest.

Our tip: If you are unsure, simply measure a well-fitting garment from your child's current wardrobe while it is lying flat on a table and compare these measurements with our chart.

Unfortunately, this question cannot be answered in general terms, as every child grows in their own individual growth spurts.

Especially during the first months of life, babies develop very quickly. It can therefore happen that a beloved overall or jacket feels like it becomes too small much sooner than expected.

Later, during the toddler and preschool years, growth often slows down, and garments suddenly fit for many months or even several seasons.

Despite the wish for clothing to last as long as possible, we strongly recommend not buying disana items too large.

  • Always remember our golden rule: Rolling up sleeves or trouser legs once is perfectly fine – but it should not be more than that.
  • If clothing is far too large, it loses its function: Your child gets lost in the fabric, cannot move freely while exploring the world, and may even start to feel cold – despite the wonderful properties of virgin wool – because too much cold air can circulate inside the garment.

The good news is: Since wool is naturally elastic and our cuts are designed to be wonderfully comfortable, favorite pieces usually grow with your child much longer than you might expect at first!
